Internet access has been very spotty and slow, so I haven't been able to post all the pictures I've wanted to - and have wasted lots of time trying to do so.
So, I will revert to text only and tell you that we are now in Fondwa, enjoying the much cooler air, and wandering the hills. Many of our group have gone down to the orphanage with Elizabeth Pritts, who was anxious to see the "brothers and sisters" of her Haitian daughters now in Wisconsin.
Thursday was another busy day at the clinic. We finished seeing patients about 1 pm, totalling almost 800 people receiving our services. Our Ob/Gyn docs and pediatrician were as usual very popular, and we also fitted about 80 pairs of reading glasses, including 4 pairs for the FHM staff at Blanchard! It was helpful to have a dermatologist, who also did general medicine, and of course, Nicole Larrier's doctoring was sagain superior.
Our pharmacy ran extremely well this year, under the able direction of Nurse Gwen. We were blessed to have Sean Walmer returning with experience, and to have to college seniors interested in medical school helping. as well - Craig and Matt.
On the way to Fondwa, we stopped briefly in Leogane to drop off some supplies and to have a quick tour of the new FHM clinic there. We didn't see the Duke Engage students - they were already gone for the day. Dr. Delson Merisier, FHM's Ob/Gyn in Leogane, was a gracious tour guide.
So, I will now post this, hoping that the internet service here will allow all these words, if not my pictures.
Family Health Ministries (FHM) is a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to developing long-term relationships with underserved individuals, families and communities to help them help themselves in culturally-relevant ways.
